Before enrolling in my Social Innovations class, I hardly even knew what constituted as a social problem or a social innovation. After interacting with different class members and sharing our ideas, I got a much better perspective of just how many social problems exist around the world. I became reminded of the poverty and lack of education that exists in Third World countries, as well as the continuous damage of the environment that we have taken for granted as a society.

I have also realized that I have overlooked many social problems that are close to home, particularly the drug abuse in Vancouver. While I’d like to research many different  social problems, I need to begin somewhere. I am hoping that by researching and writing about this topic will motivate me to do something about it.

The purpose of this blog is to bring more awareness to this issue- to myself and others. I hope to discuss what we has been done right and what has been done wrong, and what can be done further to make this situation better.

Great to see you develop the site to explore drug addiction in Vancouver. There are considerable resources on this topic…exploring what we mean by addiction, the effects of addiction, the labelling of “addicts”, the systems that work for and against change etc.
Looking forward to seeing you investigate this area.
    Cheers
